Coal Effect Gas Fires by Edwards of Sale
If you are considering a coal effect gas fire then consider the following before you buy.
Is the fire suitable for your type of chimney? There are four main options if you include no chimney. If your home is pre 1980s the chances are you can have any type of gas fire. Anything more modern could be a class 2 or pre-cast flue which means you have limited depth. As a result there won’t be sufficient depth for built in fires.
Will the fire give the right amount of heat for your living space? There are many websites that offer calculations as to how much heat you will require based on the size of room. The problem is they don’t include options for things like cavity wall insulation or how many windows does the room have, amongst other variables.
Will the fire comply with regulations when installed. For example if the hearth has insufficient depth or if there is a wood surround that encroaches on the space allowed to combustibles.
These are just a few points and to emphasise why it’s important that the work is carried by a reputable retailer and Gas Safe qualified installer.
