Multi-fuel vs Wood Burning Stoves Manchester!

why us white

wood burning stove

This page is designed to give some insight as to which is the best stove for you and your requirements.  It is general advice and also for our local customers looking for stoves in Manchester.

The best advice we can offer is to first work out what fuel you want to burn.  The reasons are set out below and can help save you money if you at least consider them.

Wood burning stoves are quite often more efficient than a multi-fuel option.  The reason is that they are optimised to burn wood and not other fuels as well.  With multi-fuel stoves they have to combine the best of both worlds when it comes to air flow.  As coal requires air flow from underneath and wood burns off the top, the appliance will need to accommodate both and hence will not be optimised for just wood.  That’s not to say wood burners are much better in general, they don’t have the function to burn coal which many see as a big plus.

Think about how often you want to use it and if you may use it overnight.  Coal will last much longer than wood which is ideal for overnight burning or just generally less loading.  Some multi-fuel stoves give the option to remove the grate and therefor have the logs sat directly on a bed of ash.  This could be your best all round option but a good surveyor/installer can advise you on site.

It’s also worth noting that good stoves have better air control than cheaper alternatives.  This means you can regulate the heat output much better.

So if you only wish to burn wood only then maybe just focus on wood-burning stoves as you will a more optimised product with better efficiency for your fuel.  If you want to explore other options to burn or think you will at some point in the future then look at multi-fuel.
